The conference will offer two-hour sessions in our hands-on computer labs during each day of the conference.
Pre-registration will be required for each hands-on session and will require a ticket for admission. An additional fee will be charged for each hands-on session. You must be registered for either December 9th or 10th to attend a hands-on workshop on December 9th or 10th.
SOITA members may attend a hands-on workshop for $50 plus the full-day registration fee of $120 on Wednesday, December 9th for a total of $170. Non-members may attend one hands-on workshop for $100 per person plus the non-member full-day registration fee of $220 for a total of $320.

Introduction to a SMARTBoard and Notebook Software 10.0
Instructor: Alyssa Baker, ITSCO
In this hands-on session, teachers will gain new SMART skills for their SMART Board and SMART Notebook Software. With a SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard and Notebook software, teachers have the ability to make lesson plans interactive and motivational while at the same time increasing their own creativity. Bring the concept of probability to life with virtual coin flipping and rolling dice or create an interactive timeline, animated poetry, place value charts and more! This session will focus on the use of SMART Boards and SMART Notebook Software in the K-12 classroom, creating lessons aligned to state standards while motivating and engaging students.
Photo Restoration Using Photoshop Elements

Whiten teeth, smooth away the wrinkles, and remove blemishes - all from the comfort of your computer! Join us as we learn techniques to restore old photographs and alter the ones we wish were never taken. Tools emphasized in this class include lighting, contrast, color and cloning. Participants may bring their own photos on a CD or Flash drive.
Podcasting Without an iPod
Instructor: Bill Mooney, ITSCO
Podcasting is an increasingly popular technology that has many educational values. In this session, participants will explore using podcasts for teaching, learning and professional development. Participants will explore the vast array of instructional examples that are out there and ready to use in your classroom.

Taking your SMARTBoard to the Next Level
Instructor: Alyssa Baker, ITSCO
SMART Board tools encourage and engage students, leading to increased achievement and interest. This intermediate course is for current SMART Board users who want to expand their skills, knowledge and creativity using Notebook Software 10.0. Educators will learn about the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Internet combined with SMART Board tools. Participants will discover how to record lessons or student presentations so they can then be saved and shared with others. This session will also explore online resources such as standard-aligned activities, additional free resources and tools that will enable you to bring your most creative classroom ideas to life on your SMART Board!
Digital Storytelling is Educational and Fun!

Digital Storytelling helps students to find their own voices and foster a sense of individuality through images, sound, narration, and strong emotional content. In this series, participants will learn how to plan and assess a digital story project; how to use the 7 elements of digital storytelling to enhance reading, writing, speaking and listening; and how to work with a variety of technology tools to plan and present material in digital format that will capture the interest and enthusiasm of many types of learners.
Bringing Web 2.0 into Your Classroom

Heard of Web 2.0 but don’t really know what it is? In this session, participants will gain a broad understanding of Web 2.0 and explore Web 2.0 applications such as blogs, wikis, RSS and more. We will look at examples of how teachers and students are using Web 2.0 applications, discuss integration ideas and learn how to get started with these cool, collaborative and free applications! |
